O symbo – Ojciec, syn i wnuk: I went to see a talk with Jacek Dehnel and he appeared to be an erudite, an art-lover. This book was powerful because Dehnel knows how to make his research. As stated earlier in the comments, this verisimilitude does work.

I got a little bit less intrigued after the death of Francisco, because his character was fascinating, but I enjoyed it throughout nonetheless. Hoe schitterend het idee voor een roman ook mag zijn, het is het neergeschreven relaas van dat idee dat de lezer bereikt.
Als lezer vind je de vondst van de auteur nooit briljant als zijn werk je bladzijdenlang teleurstelt. Jacek Dehnel geeft in zijn nawoord zelf aan dat hij de helft van deze roman in slechts een maand tijd heeft geschreven – satufn dit een vergoelijking zijn voor het povere resultaat?

Misschien verdient Javier De Goya iets meer dan dit, niet? Yes, this is an imaginative work of fiction that recreates the dysfunctional family of one of Spain’s great painters and cultural con, and no, I cannot attest to its historical accuracy. This is perhaps why we have the word, verisimilitude.
